The Georgia Department of Economic Development is taking a trip to South Korea to bring video game companies to the Peach State.

Headed by Asante Bradford, the department’s new digital entertainment liaison, a contingent is looking to build a rapport with the country – the world’s hottest video game development site. Bradford says a team from GDEcD is meeting with state government officials there to encourage Korean video game development firms to do business in Georgia.

“We hope to beat other states to the punch,” he said. Two other international game development companies have recently located to the state. CDC, the largest game developer in China, and CCP, based in Iceland and one of the top online game developers in the world, have both recently opened U.S. offices in Georgia.

South Korea has about 1,200 online gaming companies, according to the state-funded Korea Game Development and Promotion Institute. The institute forecasts the market will grow more than 20 percent to about $2.35 billion in 2007. The country is also a top spot to offshore video game development.
